A chrome delete covers the chrome trim of a car in black vinyl: the window surrounds, the grille, the badges and the mirror caps. It costs $300 for the window trim and $650 to $850 for all the chrome in the 2026 price list of Blackout Window Tinting, an installer in Gilroy, California, and it peels off without harming the chrome. Before you book, see it on your car: gloss black trim or satin black trim opens the visualizer on its trim layer, where you tap or brush the chrome pieces of your photo.

What a chrome delete costs

The price follows how much chrome there is and how it comes off. The window trim is the cheapest part: long, narrow and flat. Grilles, badges and bumper inserts take more time, and a shop that removes the pieces to wrap behind the edges charges more hours for a cleaner result.

Gloss, satin or matte black

Gloss black matches the piano black trim that many cars already have around the windows, so a gloss chrome delete looks factory. Satin black is more discreet and hides fingerprints and swirl marks; matte black flattens the trim completely and suits a car wrapped in a matte or satin colour. Try the three on the same photo: gloss, satin and matte.

Shops use the same cast films as for a full wrap. In 3M's 2080 palette, the black films used for trim are these, each opening on the trim layer:

Vinyl, paint or a kit

Vinyl is the usual chrome delete because it is reversible: the chrome is still there when you sell the car, and a damaged piece is rewrapped in minutes. Painting or powder coating the trim lasts longer but is permanent and costs more, since the pieces come off and the chrome has to be prepared. Pre-cut kits sold for popular models save the cutting and suit a first DIY job on the window trim.

Many owners pair a chrome delete with black wheels or a black roof for a full blackout look. The visualizer has a layer for each: start with the trim, then switch to the accent layer and tap the roof or the wheels.

How to preview it on your car

Add a photo of your car in daylight, side or three-quarter view. The visualizer opens on the trim layer: tap a chrome piece and the selection grows along it, or switch to the brush to paint over thin trim by hand. The film follows the shine of your photo, so a gloss black keeps the reflections of the chrome and a matte black flattens them.
