Car color changer: try a wrap on a photo of your own car
Upload a photo of your car, tap the paint and see it in matte black, Nardo grey, satin purple or chrome. The preview keeps the reflections of your photo, and the photo never leaves your device.
- 1Photo
- 2Select the paint
- 3Choose the film
- 1Shoot the whole car, in daylight, without strong shadows.
- 2Tap the paint once: the panels of the same colour are selected.
- 3Pick a colour and a finish, then compare before and after.
How the car color changer works
1. Add your photo
A side or three-quarter view in daylight works best. The photo is decoded in your browser and scaled to about 1,100 pixels, enough to judge a colour and quick on a phone.
2. Tap the paint
One tap selects the panels of the same colour and stops at glass, tyres and trim. Tap again on a panel that was missed, or switch to the brush to add or erase by hand.
3. Choose the film
Pick one of 24 wrap shades or any colour, then gloss, satin, matte or chrome. Slide between before and after, download the image or copy a link to the colour.
Beyond the body colour: a second colour on the roof, hood or mirrors for a two-tone, black rims and trim for a chrome delete, and window tint from 5 to 70 percent of light let through. Line up to four colours side by side and download them as one image, or let the tool find the shade and the 3M film closest to your car's current paint. The 3M tab lists the 105 films of 3M's 2080 colour palette by code, from 2080-G12 Gloss Black to 2080-S347 Satin Perfect Blue, each shown in the colour measured on 3M's own swatch.
Gloss, satin, matte or chrome: what each finish changes
The same shade looks like a different car in each finish, and the finish is the choice people regret most after a wrap. Gloss reflects the sky and the street like new paint. Satin keeps a soft sheen along the body lines, which is why satin black and satin grey are the most requested colour changes. Matte absorbs light and flattens reflections, so dents and dust show less but the car looks heavier. Chrome reflects its surroundings like a mirror and costs more to install.
The visualizer reproduces this from your photo: a gloss film keeps all the reflections of the paint, satin keeps about two thirds of them, matte about a third, and chrome exaggerates them. Try gloss black, satin black and matte black on the same photo to see the difference.

What a wrap costs
A full colour change wrap starts at $2,500 in the 2026 price list of Blackout Window Tinting, an installer in Gilroy, California, against $3,000 to $10,000 for a quality repaint. On a Tesla Model 3, published 2026 prices run from about $1,200 to $4,000 installed, and a Jeep Wrangler takes about 253 square feet of film. Panels cost less: $500 for a roof, $400 for a hood and $650 to $850 for a full chrome delete. Add up your own job with the car wrap cost calculator.
What a preview can and cannot tell you
A preview answers the question that comes first: does this shade and this finish suit my car? It cannot replace a sample. Phone screens differ, the light in your photo tints every colour, and two films sold under the same name can differ from one brand to another. Choose two or three favourites here, then ask your installer to hold the real film against your car in daylight.
Questions
Is the car color changer free?
Yes, the car color changer is free and needs no account. Your photo is opened and repainted in your browser, so it is never uploaded to a server.
Can I see a wrap on my own car before buying it?
Yes, upload a photo of your own car, tap the paint and choose a colour and a finish. The preview keeps the reflections and shadows of your photo, so you see the shade on your car rather than on a stock picture.
How accurate is a wrap preview?
A preview shows how a shade and a finish change the look of your car, but it is not a colour sample. Your screen, the light in the photo and the film itself all shift the colour, so ask your installer for a sample of the real film before you decide.
What is the difference between satin and matte wrap?
A satin wrap keeps a soft sheen that shows the shape of the panels, while a matte wrap absorbs light and flattens reflections. Gloss looks like new paint, and chrome reflects its surroundings like a mirror.
How much does a car wrap cost?
A full colour change wrap starts at $2,500 in one California installer's 2026 price list, with a roof at $500 and a hood at $400. Bigger vehicles, premium films and your region change the price, so compare written quotes.
